Plums in Wiltshire

I had a great weekend.

I was with my grandparents helping them fix up their garden. I ate lots of plums straight off the tree. They were still warm with all the gorgeous sunlight they were getting.

I sent a text to my mate Chris (the countdown champion from Leeds) and it was something like “I’m eating warm plums stood in my Granny’s garden”. He said it was all lyrical and evocative. My other mate Mark said that he didn’t like plums but appreciated the thought.

This reminded me of a poem by William Carlos Williams

This is just to say
I have eaten the plums
that were
in the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
