Give up buying books for 6 months?

Could I give up buying books for 6 months?

I’d only be allowed to read books I already own or books I can borrow from the library.

But could I do it?

From the first of April (I can’t just go cold turkey!) till the first of October I pledge to only read books I already own or books from the local library. I pledge to not ask other people to buy books on my behalf or from charity shops and justify the purchase. I pledge not to set orders in advance for new books coming out in the next six months so they arrive during the period of the pledge. I pledge not to contact publishers begging them for books during the period of the pledge. I pledge not to steal any books. I pledge not to buy a big stack of books in the remaining months of March to supplement the months of this pledge.

Books gifted to me are not covered by this pledge. Books provided on the Amazon Vine Voices scheme are not covered by this pledge as they’re totally free.

(I can already feel the shudders happening)

I know you’re a few days into this now, but I wanted to say good luck. I find libraries more dangerous than bookshops, as I end up coming out with six books I will never read in a month and then there’s associated guilt of giving them back unread!

Will bookcrossing books be included in your get out clauses, or was it terrible of me to even mention them?

Book crossing books are allowed as there’s no exact monetary transaction. I’m always on the look out for what’s there but the quality can be a bit patchy.
