Living on a Prayer

Been duelling 100 word short stories with Tom. Here’s one I came up with. I offer it with no commentary.

The monk Judas kneels at the altar, his eyes turned  to heaven for an answer, every day his prayer is the same the words whispered on his lips. The floor is cold through his cassock, the rosary smooth in his hand from turning.

In a break from tradition, heaven has an answer for him.”Your hope is in vain and your life is a waste”, a pause; a breath and finally “only kidding”. Judas stands, drops his rosary to the floor and walks away knowing he’ll never return.
